Has anyone else noticed that the Apple DV multiport adapter only supply’s 23 Watts of power to the MacBook from the 29 Watt adapter thus making it slower.

The specs of the adapter say it supports max pass through of 60 Watt. But if you go to system report power it only passes through 23 Watt not 29 as it does when the charter is plugged straight into the MacBook.

Apple acknowledges that the 87Watt MacBook Pro 15 inch can’t be supplied with the full amount. But there is no mention of this step down. Makes charging slower. I have tried 3 adapters and seems common. Can anyone else see this? Anyone know why ?

The adapter reserves a few watts to power itself and the USB-A port. I think this is dynamic however and the statistics displayed aren't necessarily what is always happening. For example nearly all the 29W might be passing through if there is nothing else plugged into the adapter.

You could try running your MacBook down to a state of low charge and see if the reported charging speed direct vs. through the adapter differs using an app such as coconutBattery to get a definitive answer.
