On a Beige desktop G3 under Mac OS 8.6, I have lost the ability to monitor how much free disk space is available. The Get Info for the 6 GB internal hard drive (which until recently showed about 200 MB Available) now shows the entire 6 GB Available. In addition the Get Info shows an unhelpful -65,523,712 bytes used for 28,339 items (which sounds like about the right number of items.)
I tried: 1) rebuilding the desktop; 2) booting without extensions; 3) searching for files with unusually large or small file sizes. All to no avail.
No other untoward symptoms.
Any suggestions?
