I just went from Big Sur to Ventura (iMAC 2017, 21 inch). Before downloading, I off loaded some stuff to make room, emptied the trash, and had 118 gig available (screen shot). AFTER Ventura was finished, It now shows 141 Gig available! How does an upgrade make more room on my 256 gig SSD? (the first screen shot, showing 118 gig was from yesterday, when I was researching something else unrelated to upgrade)

The upgrade probably cleared out some of the work directories, such as cache files.

Absolutely no reason to worry.
Lots of unneccesary stuff has been cleared out.
Just enjoy.

Just waded through a series of posts regarding the fact that on an iMac with a iTB HD, the systems in Ventura take up nearly half of the disk space. I think that Apple should warn you of this and suggest that you upgrade your HD to 2 TB. I've managed to recoup space by putting almost all my large files and folders on EHD's. I would be interested in others who have found the amount of space taken by systems on Ventura unacceptable.

Ventura 13.5's System + Library = 32gb on my 1tb m2 Pro Mini
