avatar quality

hey macrumors forum admins,

how come the quality of my avatar is a lot less than the 75x75 pixel pic that i uploaded. for instance look at my avatar on the left and then the avatar in my public profile.

admins could you please make the avatar on my public profile the avatar that appears when i post? it would be much apprec. ive tried everything and the resolution and size is under the max. the original is from my flickr here

This has been asked about before, and I think it might have something to do with it being a .png instead of .jpg or .gif. Is it a .png file?

Yep, it's because the forum auto-converts .png files to .gif for the postbits. Here is a thread from a couple of weeks ago about this same issue.

oh ok thanks guys it looks like i have to make a jpeg with a background the same colour as the board. yep it was a png because i wanted the transparency and the shadow to show up. thanks again!
