Average OS X install? (Compact Flash Hard Drive Question)

An adapter for a 2.5" laptop drive to 2x compact flash. could be a pretty cool replacement for my macbook.

but what's the average OS X install?

hmmm...

I dont know anything about this, but it certainly seems like a fun thing to try. 10.4 + iTunes came out to be about 3ish gigs.

2ish GB? Isn't it it more like 5GBs?

The minimum install (ie. if you choose just the base components when customizing an install) is about 3.5GB.
