What is the average expected price(or what I should be expecting to pay) of a Power Mac G4 and a Power Mac G5? I am looking to give one as a gift and like to know what they are averaging on the market right now. Base models I guess is what I am looking at. Thank you.

From $1600 to $2700. Check the refurbished store. The cheaper one is Dual and the more expensive one is Quad. The Dual I think got sold but I remember it was like $1600-$1700.

Well I was wondering because I was offered a G5 single chip with super drive for $850 in good condition model at a local apple retailer.
Do you mean a G5 as a single chip or a single core G5 PowerMac? If it's the PowerMac, get it. PPC is still good and upgrade the RAM to at least 1GB on the PowerMac.
Not a bad deal for a PM G5, but why not spend an extra $100-$200 and get an iMac CD or C2D...or spend a little less and get a mac mini, which has less upgradability, but will outperform a single G5 on most tasks.
