Long time reader, first time poster.

I have installed XMBC (and Boxee) on my Apple TV. I am trying to stream movies from my iMac to these programs, but I can't get either one to play Avi/DiVX files. I can get them to add the iMac as a source, play music/view photos that are in my shared folder, and list off the movie files I have. They play in quicktime on the iMac, so I don't think they are corrupt, but won't play in XMBC nor Boxee.

I did a factory reset, and reinstalled from the patch stick but still no luck. Needless to say, I am quite frustrated.

Any suggestions?

Update:

Today I tried to play a movie on my Powerbook that was in a shared folder on my iMac. An error came up that said something to the effect of not having sufficient privileged/permission to play the file. Gave me the same error no matter what movie I selected. Could get images and mp3s to play though.

I presume this is the same error XBMC/Boxee is running into when I try to play movies with the Apple TV. Does anyone know what settings I might need to change?

Thanks in advance.
