.avi files over airport disks wont play????

here is my setup...

I'm using a macbook connected to a wireless airport extreme with an airdisk connected via USB. Sometimes I can play .avi files over a folder on the airdisk, sometimes not? Even if the .avi files wont play, I can still play other video files...

I fixed it once, but i cant' remember how! I've tried unmounting the disks, remounting the disks, restarting the base station, computer etc.

I have perian and Flip4Mac installed.

p.s files play fine when on the local disk.
