Hey, I've got a few .avi files that I'd like to burn to DVD, I'm getting a new mac this weekend so I havent looked at the new iMovie HD yet but I was wondering if Its possible to put the .avi files onto the DVD and set up a menu so I can watch them on my DVD player? Thanks a lot!

PS: If you can't do this on iMove or any of the stock OS X software, any reccomendations? Could I get a video converter program or something to make it compatiable?

Just use iDVD and click "New Movie" and drag the avi to the text the you just created.

You will need whatever codec the avi is encoded in installed for Quicktime.
Divx and 3vix are the more popular one's I find. There is a X264 codec being worked on - but it doesn't work on QT 7.1.1 yet.

Cool thats what I needed to know! (I forgot about iDVD...) and what I've got is divx, where would I get the codec? What is X264? Related at all to H.264? because I thought QT7 was made with H.264 in mind... thanks!

You get the DivX suite here. x264 is an opensource clone of H.264.
