AVI to QT Conversion?

I have some fansub anime I'd like to burn to a DVD using iDVD, but it's in AVI format, which iDVD doesn't seem to like...

Is there a conversion tool I can download?

i know that you can do this with quicktime pro easily, but i'm not aware of any free way to do it...

Will QuickTime play it back OK?

I've never heard of any 'free' way to do this, but for kicks you might want to search for 'AVI' or 'AVI to QT' on VersionTracker, or MacUpdate.

divx doctor II will convert avi files to mov. works most of the time unless the avi is messed up or has ac3 sound.

Everything should be fine if you install the QuickTime codec for AC3.
