My friend's PC-based Avid machine had a pretty serious meltdown this weekend. He has a simple project he has to turn around on a deadline and is looking for my help.
It's a 2 hour plus video recorded to a Firestore FS4 in Avid format. It needs a few simple title cards from Photoshop files tacked on. I'd like to turn it around to a straight-up Quicktime file for him and produce a simple DVD from it.
I can't afford to purchase Automatic Duck and I don't need to import any timelines, just the straight video files. What alternatives do I have? Is there a way to import the OMF files from the FS4 into FCP directly? Pretty much all my searching keeps pointing to AD and the need to convert whole projects.
I have several machines at my disposal. A 2.4GHz iMac running 10.5.8 and FCP7, a dual-processor G5 running 10.4.11 and FCP5.1.4, and my Santa Rosa MBP (2.2GHz) running 10.6 and FCP7.
I tried installing the 14 day demo of Media Composer 3.5 on my laptop tonight, but when I try to run the demo it gives me a license activation failure error. I have not run the demo before. I will try it on the machines at work (the other two), but there's no guarantee that'll work. If it does, it can't be to hard to whip such a simple project out. That's if it does....
thanks!
