I'm pretty certain I used this freeware utility on Leopard. With SL I don't get any sound with edited files, or any when I'm actually playing a file.
I'm using Avidemux to split various encoded files and convert them if neccessary. I know about MpegStreamclip and I use that when I have to bring it into iMovie.
I downloaded the package, and it didn't work. So I trashed it, and tried installing via macports.
Code:
justin$ sudo port install avidemux

So I tried cleaning...

Code:
justin$ sudo port clean avidemux
--->  Cleaning avidemux
and updating

Code:
ustin$ sudo port selfupdate
--->  Updating the ports tree
---> Updating MacPorts base sources using rsync
MacPorts base version 1.8.1 installed,
MacPorts base version [B]1.8.1[/B] downloaded.
---> [B]MacPorts base is already the latest version[/B]

The ports tree has been updated. To upgrade your installed ports, you should run
  port upgrade outdated

Justins-MacBook-Pro:~ justin$ sudo port upgrade outdated

Justins-MacBook-Pro:~ justin$

then I tried installing again - same deal.
I tried redownloading the package - same deal no audio. :confused:
This is on a Macbook 15, so I would rather skip having to convert and bring it into another app.
Is there another freeware app out there that can split xvid/divx encoded files?

Avidemux is working perfectly for me on 10.6.2. Audio works fine, and everything else is working like a charm as well. I suspect that the reason audio is not working is because you don't have Perian installed. Not really sure why you are messing around with installing MacPorts, all I had to do was move Avidemux into my applications folder and leave the rest up to the program itself. I suggest downloading the latest RC build for Mac located here and seeing if that fixes anything: http://prdownload.berlios.de/avidemux/avidemux_qt4_2.5.2_rc_Universal.dmg

Perian is installed.
I used macports because the version downloaded didn't work.

Hope this isn't too late to help you. I had a similar problem.I had to manually switch the audio on by going to Preferences/Audio and then in the 'Audio output' area I selected 'core audio'.

I was usuing Avidemux 2.4.3 (4533) QT4 (from here) with Snow Leopard.

Just to clarify I'm not using Perian or MacPorts.
