I purchased the Apple Vision Pro solely for movies. I loved the idea of this device as a replacement for a $15-$20K projector and a $5K 77”+ OLED while also having the ability to have a screen larger than 115”.

The first day I was blown away by the pure size of the image, but then I started to notice some drawbacks - mainly picture quality of the device for movies. All of my viewing has been done through the Apple TV+ app and all items are watched were in 4K.

Positives
1. Native aspect ratios preserved. No black bars for 1.85:1, 2.35:1, etc
2. Size of the image. Can vary between 32” to 200”+
3. Ability to watch anytime of day or night

Negatives
1. Glare. Anytime I use theater mode it introduces a significant amount of glare which is very distracting. This mostly goes away if I leave theater mode though and use auto dimming in its own window
2. Pixelization - I notice pixelization/jagged edges in almost every bright scene or anytime there is text on screen - front, middle, or back rows (back being the best). This is similar to LCD projectors but no banding. There are no sharpness/focus picture adjustments to help alleviate this issue
3. Black level - this doesn’t appear to be as good as my 77”OLED LG C3, but better than most projectors I’ve tested - it’s not a deal breaker by any means
4. Weight. I’ll typically go about 1-1.5 hours before it becomes annoying. I cannot use the solo loop but the dual loop is much better
5. FOV isn’t great especially with a larger screen. It feels like you are looking through goggles - not as bad as I thought, but not ideal either.
6. Drinks. Very hard to drink while wearing the headset, but you can eat popcorn easily.

I am very picky about image quality and while I appreciate the large screen sizes I found myself making the image about 110” in order to preserve image quality. For that I’d much prefer my dedicated projector or TV bc the trade offs are currently to high for me.

Just thought I’d post for this in a similar boat as me. Anyone have additional items that I might have missed?

7. You can’t use your existing surround audio setup, and the built-in speakers or AirPods aren’t quite equivalent.
8. You can’t play your existing Blu-ray disks, at least not without ripping them (see parallel forum thread).
9. You can’t watch with others, obviously, except using SharePlay.
10. Playback controls may be less convenient than using a remote.
