Hi,

When I got my AW5 last year I ran into a problem with the backup of my then-to-be-exchanged AW4 not showing up in the Watch app. I had unpaired my AW4 and then it's supposed to backup to my iPhone - however, for some reason it did not and the only backup I saw was from an old AW2 I had some years earlier. Thus, I had to set my AW5 up as a new watch and lost some data as well.

Forward a year and I have the same problem with my new watch...
I bought an AW6, and when I pair it with my iPhone I only see a backup from my AW5 dating back to September 2019 when I first set the AW5 up. Thus, it seems like my watches never synch to my iPhone for some reason (even when I unpair them...). When I look in the iPhone storage section I can see four AW backups; two from some really old AW2's, one from my old AW4 and one from my AW5 (but this one is from the day I set it up). Thus, again, it seems like my watches are never synched to my phone except for one time (when set up).

With last years ******** in mind I kept my AW5 paired to my iPhone, and I'm glad I did. However, I of course want to transfer everything to my new watch. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Did you upgrade your Series5 to watchOS 7.0.1?

Is you new Series6 is upgraded to 7.0.1?

If it set up at 7.0.0, it cannot load that backup from 7.0.1 -- make sure you first update the new watch all the way to 7.0.1 and the backup should then show as available.

I did, yes.

This happened to my on every unpairing - I did it with S3 S4 and S5. Every time. The backup I wanted, never showed up for the pairing proces. I saw it later, when I did not need it anymore. Good news is: you wont lose any data, just the apps and the setup of the watch itself is from that outdated backup. I did not mix the OS-versions as well. It just does not work as promised...

Yeah, it's kinda crappy and stressful when you can't trust the backup process. So no data is lost? Everything is stored on the phone except the actual settings of the watch? Then I can be a bit calmer, even though it's a PITA to set it up from scratch again.

activity, health data is synced to your phone apps continuously, not as a backup. it is just the setup of the watch and the watchfaces as I encountered it.

... The desired backup will be available as well, just somehow later, kind of
