So from reading the comments and the official apple website there seem to be no difference in battery capacity between the two versions. I hardly believe that, surely the new 44mm AW has a slightly longer battery life due bigger battery to support the bigger screen?!

Regardless, both Watches are rated at 18 hours. A user might be able to achieve well over that depending on their settings and overall usage with the Apple Watch.

Thats true, but did apple not officially stated that the 42mm has longer battery life than the 38mm or were they also graded both for 18 hours. If so then only tests by reviewers will hopefully show results of increased battery life on the 44mm version (personally i just favor the longest battery life for the just in case moments)

Since the Apple Watch inception, _none_ of the Apple Watches have had longer battery life over the other. They all have been rated 18 hours equally. That 42 mm and 38 mm Series 3 watch were both rated at 18 hours.

Sweet thanks!

7% battery difference, so i guestimate its around the same for the new S4 watches.

In that case i go for the 40mm version, as the battery life increase is not that much of a difference at all. I just carry a recharge pack with me instead then.

But on the Apple website, every test they‘ve conducted was with the 38mm watch, saying 42mm watches can expect more time. And the battery was bigger as well in the bigger watch. If you‘re using the watch as intended (90 % standby, 10 % active), bigger will last longer. If you‘re after the actual usage time, both will last the same.

I think you’re missing my point. I’m indicating what Apple statistically has said that 18 hours has always been the standard battery life of expectancy through all the Apple Watch models, but some could easily achieve over that depending on your usage and settings.

Same situation as any device. 44mm has a bigger battery. This means screen off battery life will be higher. Screen on activites will be similar. Standby time should be slightly better for the 44mm due to higher battery capactiy.

The same can be seen for iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR. Technically, the XR has the longest battery time when comparing internet usage (LCD display uses less battery than OLED). However XS Max has highest battery life when comparing straight audio playback (because the screen is off, and that device has the largest battery).
