Any idea what is going on with Watch OS 6 for Series 2? Got my X upgraded to iOS13, all went smoothly, but now when I try to upgrade my AW S2, I am not getting anything.

Try disconnecting connectivity from the watch. Reboot the phone then restore connectivity to the phone and see if it shows up.

That is what I needed to do

It was mentioned during the keynote that watchOS 6 would come to Series 3 and 4 watches first, with Series 2 (and 1?) to follow sometime later.

watchOS 6 requires iPhone 6s or later with iOS 13 or later, and one of the following Apple Watch models:
  • Apple Watch Series 1
  • Apple Watch Series 2
  • Apple Watch Series 3
  • Apple Watch Series 4
  • Apple Watch Series 5

My concern is once I go to iOS 13, am I gonna end up with an expensive S2 bracelet until Watch OS 6 drops?

Or will my phone and watch play nice after updating the phone?

You'll be fine. Many people were running the public beta of iOS 13.0 on their phone while running wOS 5 on their watch.

I can vouch for what btrach144 says, had the 13 pb on my phone for ages, works fine with watchOS5. I never install the betas on the Watch.
