Just wondering if the heart rate sensor on the AW 6 is improved vs the AW 5?

Is there a way to tell or do we have to wait for a teardown?

It is shown as you scroll down Apple Watch Series 6 page and is different than S4 and S5. If it is an improvement for Heart rate is remain to be seen.

It is way too early to answer that question. Once the new watches arrive (mine is slated 9/29 - 9/29) then we can put the watch thru it’s paces and see how it performs, compared to the series 5.
That will be interesting to see!

I know from my AW3 to my AW5 that the heart rate sensor was a massive improvement. I'd go on runs and spend half the run with the watch trying to find my heart rate - but with the AW5, it got it every time. I imagine the AW6 will only be better with those new sensors.

I always wait for the iFixit teardowns as my biggest source of information. Seems everyone is quick to get stats out that they aren't completely sure about. (That and several youtube reviewers I trust).

Can't Wait :). Mine just went to preparing to ship! Still 25-29 delivery estimate tho.

I like the teardowns myself, even though I cringe watching the devices intentionally abused by folks like JerryRig. What color did you get if I may ask?

I was going to get a Graphite but ... my bank account isn't as full as I'd like so I went with the same as I got now - Space Grey Aluminum. But I did go cellular this time - figured the AW5 trade in at $180 covered that part. Going to be nice to be able to call while I'm out waddling (jogging) if I need to.

I'm very indecisive this year. I want to see the blue in person, even the Product Red, but in the end I'm pretty sure I'll end up with the Space Gray again like usual. I may not do cell either, due to recent events of this year I'm trying to be a little more frugal, if that makes sense. I'm coming from AW4, so I really don't NEED the upgrade, but I'd LIKE it.

I went ahead and ordered the blue. It looks close enough to my regular space grey models, but with a nice dark blue hue .. or course, nobody knows in person yet. While the RED is nice and very unique and will certainly stand out, I didn’t think having such a bold color ALL the time for my Apple Watch was where I wanted be. Of course, I have the feeling apple would like us to have SEVERAL so we can swap them out like Swatches.. For me at least, that isn’t going to happen. Frankly though, I’m surprised that apple can’t accommodate several watches from the same person/user synced to the same phone and health accounts. Maybe Watch OS 8

Yeah I can't see myself buying the RED, but I still want to see it before I make a decision.

Not sure I've ever taken a call while out for a run (I set DND on), but the cellular capability is LOTS more than phone calls IMHO.

For me it's:
  • ability to stream music or podcasts over LTE
  • allows using Siri to note a reminder of something I think of while out; to-do or grocery list or whatever
  • ability to bring up a map when running an unfamiliar route and I'm unsure which way to go at an intersection
  • ability to text someone if I'm going to be a few minutes late
  • and most importantly, it makes my wife happy that I can get help if something happens on a long run

Hey I was convinced at phone calls. I'm a manager at my place of work and ... being able to be there in case my wife has an emergency call was all I needed to hear.

The rest of that list? Didn't even think of that! Definitely looking forward to LTE. And the rumors? that Verizon dropped watches to $5 a mo!

You'll also find that you needn't drag your phone around with you all day. Go for a walk to clear your head yet remain reachable? You're good. Doing yardwork beyond your wifi range? You're good. Running into the store for a couple minutes? You're good.

We've gotten so used to having our phones with us every where all the time that we forget what life was like not doing so all the time. An LTE watch allows for a paradigm shift to where you can leave the phone behind, yet still have basic connectivity if desired. If not desired, Do-Not-Disturb is a swipe & tap away.

Good to know about the sensor from aw3 to aw5! What Youtubers do you follow?

(These are in no particular order - and I'm sure there are many others, these are just my favorites).
