The Verge (https://www.theverge.com/2017/9/20/16337874/apple-watch-lte-connectivity-problems-software-update) has a statement from Apple regarding the AW3 Cellular's battery life that states "We have discovered that when Apple Watch Series 3 joins unauthenticated Wi-Fi networks without connectivity, it may at times prevent the watch from using cellular".

To me, the comment about when it joins unauthenticated wifi networks makes it sound like the AW3 tries to connect to any open wifi network it can find when it's away from the iPhone, possibly to try to extend battery life and use LTE less.

Anyone else getting a similar assumption based on the statement?
