Here's a weird question on ordering an Applewatch 3 as a gift-

If you order a watch to give as a gift a few months later, is there any negative to letting it for several months without charging?

If it should be topped off, then can you charge the watch without activating it? Will it proximity charge before activation? I understand that the wireless charging kit won’t be ready until next year anyway, correct?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Shouldn't be any issue, as many times they sit on the shelves of the retailers/warehouses waiting to be sold in the first place. Just put it on the shelf but the recipient might have to charge it when you give it to him/her in a few months.

Lithium ion batteries will naturally deplete if they are not being used or charged regularly. It will not harm it at all if it sits a few months without a charge. Athe time, when it does get charged, the watch will be completely depleted.

Here is some more information on Lithium ion batteries.

Thanks, I just wondered if it would hurt battery life, or screw up the OS somehow.
