My main interest in upgrading from AW2 to AW4 (GPS) is to improve the abysmal HR real time info and speed accuracy while using Strava for cycling (or running). With AW2 the heart rate info is not updating in real time for most of the ride, so is useless to help me manage my effort. During the ride the HR field is usually just blank with a heart symbol. The issue with GPS is it won’t auto pause my speed until 15-30 seconds after coming to a complete stop at a light. This throws off my overall route time and speed by quite a bit.

I’m interested to hear if anyone here has noticed any improvement in these areas with the AW4?

Hey,
I’ve got the AW4 alu. Using Strava app and Garmin 820 with heart strap.

As far as the HR goes, every time I raise my wrist the HR matches the Garmin, so I guess it’s real time.

Now as far as speed , gps they are similar, there’s differences , and also major differences in how many calories are used.

I’ve only done 2 rides so I don’t have a solid sampling.

But the watch is adequate for fitness riding, I wouldn’t use it for heavy duty training, it doesn’t accept other sensors(outside of HR).

Hope that helps.
