AW5 so how does the always on work?

Was reading through this: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT210428 but I'm still not 100% clear how the always on works on the AW5. Anyone else use the Modular watch face? I like to use the Modular with different complications, does that mean when it's in always on mode it would show the exact same Modular watchface with my complications only it would be dimmer and only update 1/minute? Or does it go into a special watch face made to be always on?

I use infograph modular a lot. When the AOD kicks in the screen dims but I still see my battery life, temperature, etc. This is actually the watch face that looks the best in AOD mode for me so far. With some watch faces things like second hand disappear. If you're in an app then it displays a generic face with the time when AOD kicks in.

Same modular face ... slightly smaller and dimmer. And the digital clock won’t count seconds.
