Better processor, improved charging, increased brightness, SpO2 sensor.

Anyone upgrading from 5 to 6? If so do you feel its been worth it.

Anyone holding out for next year?

I've upgrade every year for the past 3 years..... AOD made me upgrade last year, larger screen size the year before. Just not sure if any feature is worth upgrading to this year

There was already a thread with this same question.

I upgraded and no it's not worth it. Sleep tracking and O2 sensors don't make a compelling argument for an upgrade. The brighter screen is nice though.

I only upgraded because I had a buyer for my AW5.

I’d suggest reading the many previous posts on the topic.

“Worth it” is an individual thing.

I’m satisfied with the upgrade. GPS accuracy is noticeably better from my S5 in comparing my run tracks. 5Ghz WiFi makes a nice difference in syncing music and podcasts to watch local storage. The greater range of brightness for AOD is also really nice in my usage.

At the end of the day, do what makes you happy, but ultimately, I'd recommend against. It's even less of an upgrade than iPhone 11 (Pro) is to 12 (Pro).

You're looking at a Blood Oxygen Sensor, a brighter AOD, and a 20% faster processor. EDIT - and also, 20% faster charging.

If you were coming from S4, absolutely yes I would press for it, as someone that went from S4->S6 and just took my old S4 out for one day again, I can say, wow, I can never go back to a Watch that doesn't have AOD ever again. It's such a big step down having to raise your wrist to see the time after getting used to AOD.

Basically, in other words, I feel that AOD introduced with the S5 was actually more of an important and useful upgrade than Blood Oxygen, and the S5 has the AOD - while I am interested in my overall health, i'm yet to see Blood Oxygens overall usefulness as at the moment its just an application that churns out a number between 93%-100%. I'm sure its usefulness will come, but just yet need to see it

I won’t mention the differences between the Series 5 and Series 6, as that’s been rehashed to the point of exhaustion on multiple threads on this forum, but if you’re looking ahead at next year for 2021 for the S7, every three years Apple makes major improvements with physical changes and watchOS upgrades. The reality is, if you’re a S4 owner, it’s probably not enticing enough for the S5 or S6 to upgrade, being they all really share a lot of similarities, with the vast differences being for AOD, the oxygen sensor, etc. Apple is targeting the Series 6 Apple Watch to the S3 owners and below. The S7 Apple Watch will target Series 4/5 owners to upgrade.

We don’t know that, its way too soon to even speculate - I remember last year when S5 released, everyone was saying S6 would be the one with “big changes”, “wait for that one” and well, look how that went.

Anything could go, Who knows

You’re on a tech site that reports rumors, (Of which includes future discussions of the next Gen) speculation is absolutely appropriate in every which way. I mean, if you have an appropriate timeline of when it’s permitted to speculate, please share with the rest of us.

Everyone was saying that? No they weren’t. If you look at Apples timeline of the Apple Watch since it’s inception in 2015, every three years is the current trajectory for an Apple Watch upgrade. I Highly suspect physical changes for the S7 are coming, because watchOS upgrade/updates is not enough to push others to upgrade, which is why they likely will target the S4 owner for the S7.

It also says that Apples iPhone 6 design lasted through four generations (6, 6s, 7, 8), the X style design with stainless steel rounded corners instead meanwhile lasted three generations (X, Xs, 11 Pro), I’m not convinced Apple sticks to a set pattern with devices, and as such I’m not convinced its confirmed that the S7 will see a redesign.

I’m just saying mainly that there is no evidence of what Apple decides to do a year from now and in a way I wish Prosser et al would stop posting rumours because all it does is get people dissapointed when they don’t eventuate. Its just the same with last years iPhone 11 (pro), “oh no wait till next year, that’ll be big changes with definitely a 120hz screen and reduced notch”, and it didn’t happen in the end. Now seeing comments “just ONE more year and then we will see 120hz” - theres no evidence of that. Will just have to wait till 2021

Honestly, 20% faster, O2 sensor, and brighter outdoor AOD, always on altimeter are neat but not necessary.

The one feature that is neat is the faster charging. It charges noticeably faster. At the same time, this feature is only worth it IMO if:

1. You are using sleep tracking (built in or 3rd party) and you only charge your watch while in the shower
2. You're like my wife and constantly forgetting to charge your watch so a faster charge gets it back on your wrist quicker

I'd suggest putting your current watch up on eBay and see what you can get for it. I got nearly 55% of what I paid for my S5. That made it a lot easier to upgrade to the S6.
