Hi all
I have an AW8 - I have been invoking the water lock mode before hopping into the shower to ensure I take appropriate care of the watch.

But I'm wondering: Do you have to do this? what does water lock actually do other than lock the screen - does it somehow block water from coming inside the watch? if I take showers without turning on the water lock will this cause future issues with damp/moisture in the watch?

The watch is basically waterproofed to start with, as mentioned all the water lock does is stop the screen reacting to water on it which can cause accidental presses etc. The only other reason to do it is that when you unlock it blows the water out of the speaker holes etc to dry it out a bit.

Thanks all - I thought water lock would magically lower a barrier to block water :)

What if water gets in the speaker holes…would this adversely affect the watch in future? Do I have to blow the water out after taking a shower? Different to swimming I guess where you’d have to do this?

Just put it in swimming mode, then turn swimming mode off. This will clear the water out the speaker channel. When swimming, it automatically goes into swimming mode, but in the shower, it doesn't know to automatically do it.

You'll hear the difference if you activate Siri. I find that running the water expulsion process twice is usually a better result than just once. On the Ultra you may need several attempts from what I've read.

Even better, take that watch off before showering. Do not remove or put your watch on over hard tile surfaces and it will kill your watch if dropped.

x2. Over the years I have showered with an AW maybe 2 times. This is the perfect time to charge the watch, and Apple does not suggest being around steam (steam room), so, no real need for me.

If I'm cleaning the watch, I can just wash it under the faucet with cool water (I do this after swimming).
