awesome stuff just keeps happening, help please

so my friends processor gets screwed up and then i come into the office today and our imac g4 wont start up. its gives a I/O error and gives a username: and no matter what name i put it it just brings up the I/O error. any help, much much appreciated

Start up from your installation cd (while restarting hold c), open disk utility and repair cd, if necessary several times till no errors show up anymore. That should fix it in principle (unless the errors are really grave).
