I have a 16GB i7 MacBook Pro that I’m not using having purchased a new 32GB i9 earlier this year. I got an email from B&H who I buy a lot of camera gear from asking if I want to trade in any Apple gear. They “partner” apparently with a company called Phobio and have an online quote system. You enter the serial number and it gives you a quote. It describes the configuration of your device but the description was completely wrong. It said the Macbook was 2.8GHz when it’s a 3.1GHz, it said it was a 256GB SSD when it’s a 1TB. No mention of the higher spec graphics. There’s a support number for Phobio so I gave them a call. It was explained that the quote is always for the base model and they will update the spec on receipt of the MacBook however the price stays the same. They have got to be joking!

Needless to say I told them what they can do with their quote. It involves regions where the sun don’t shine.

Dont fall for it.

Phobio is also Apple's trade-in partner, and there are many member tales of woe here dealing with them. If you want reputable trade-in quotes, go with CashForYourMac.com (my favorite) or MacMeAnOffer.com. It's encouraging that Apple will soon take Mac in-store trade-ins so Phobio can be avoided completely.

Thanks for the info. I’ll give them a go.

Apple.com couldn't even get my MBA serial number right. Said it was a 2013 when it's an Early 2014. FWIW, Apple offered me $20 more than CashForYourMac.com (150 vs 170). I think with eBay I should be well into the mid $200's.
