After a bunch of reading, I felt pretty confident installing a G4 chip into my brother's B/W G3. I downloaded the G4 Enabler firmware hack from OWC and when I went to install it, it tells me that my computer isn't a B/W G3 and it is not necessary. I decided to throw in the processor just to see what would happen and I get the dreaded "5 beeps of non-workingness". I put the old processor back in and it up and starts fine. I try the hack again and, once again, no luck. I decided to download the firmware upgrade from Apple to see if that helps (there was a warning about some firmware not being compatible with the hack). I go to Apple and download the 1.1 Firmware updater and when I go to install it, I get the same message about the computer not being a B/W G3. I am now throughly confused.

Do I , by some freak chance, have a Server G3 B/W here? How would I know if I do or not. The current firmware on the computer is 1.1.1f4. If I do have a Server G3, is the processor upgradeable and if so, how do I go about doing it? Would trashing OSX and installing OS9 be beneficial here? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
