The computer is a B&W G3 with a SonnetTech 1GHz G4 upgrade kit. It has 768MB RAM and a CD drive.

I just ran software update and rebooted. After displaying the apple logo the screen then just shows a big black box and will not finish booting. I tried booting in safe mode and it would not finish booting. After displaying the kernel version is says "panic:We are hanging here..." Is this a kernel panic?

How can I go about fixing this without install cd's?

I have a SR MBP w/DVDs and Firewire cable as my tools.
