I have a 17" Apple Studio Display. It is a good height for writing, and who needs to have a wide screen when you need to see the full length of the page?

I had a 20" aluminum screen -- too short for writing. I think that the 23" screen should be tall enough -- but I will not spend the cash if it is roughly the same height as the 17" monitor. Does anyone know the exact height of a 23" Apple Cinema Display before I waste time and money on one? I've already got a buyer on the 17", so I need to know!

Size and weight

20-inch Apple Cinema Display
Height: 16.1 inches (41 cm)
Width: 18.5 inches (47.1 cm)
Depth: 6.8 inches (17.4 cm)
Weight: 14.5 pounds (6.6 kg)

23-inch Apple Cinema HD Display
Height: 17.7 inches (45 cm)
Width: 21.1 inches (53.6 cm)
Depth: 7.3 inches (18.7 cm)
Weight: 15.5 pounds (7.03 kg)

30-inch Apple Cinema HD Display
Height: 21.3 inches (54.3 cm)
Width: 27.2 inches (68.8 cm)
Depth: 8.46 inches (21.5 cm)
Weight: 27.5 pounds (12.47 kg)

Thanks guy but I mean the SCREEN height, not the overall height.

I need to see the whole length of the page without scrolling or squinting.

Thanks -- anyone got a ruler that can measure the real height of the 23" ACD screen?

Well, the height of the displayed images on the screen will depend on the resolution, the height of the 23" display is 1200 pixels. I don't think the physical height is as important as the pixel height. You might also want to consider the Dell LCD's as they can rotate from landscape into portrait mode.

Got an Apple store guy to measure. Height of a 17" old school Apple Studio Display is 10.75 inches; Height of a 23" ACD is 14" inches.

Hi,

I have a 23" ACD and I would say it's very good for writing. If you're concerned about viewing an entire page of A4 on screen then that's not a problem with the 23" ACD. You can get 2 whole pages of A4 on screen at once using MS Word. In fact, I decided to take a couple of photos for you display just that. These photos are showing 2 MS Word docs at 125%. My ACD Screen res is set to 1920x1200 (native).

Apologies about the quality of the photos. It's the best I could do without firing a flash and getting nothing but glare off the screen :)

Hope this helps you decide.

The overall quality of the screen is fantastic by the way!

Hey that is great, is that Latin you are writing in? Thanks so much.

Like a Dell.

Beacause... Dell's are butt ugly!
We're talking an ugliness factor of a Bulldog licking piss off a nettle! :D

Seriously though, apart from being ugly, you need the accompanying software to utilise the 'tilt' feature. I'm not sure if said software comes in OSX.

In addition to the above, using a Dell in portrait mode still doesn't let you display 2 full A4 pages at same time.

got the 23". Actually the screen height is 12 1/4" inches. Still better than the 10 plus inches on the old 17" and frankly, having the firewire and bright screen is perfect.

Things are perfect when you just use them and don't think about them.

This Apple ACD is perfect.

Thank you Steve. Thank you God for Steve.
