back pack laptop compartment comparison!

Guys i have bought a North face hot shot bag, where the the laptop comparment is inside the main compartment.

For 20 bucks or more i could have gotten the surge pack with a laptop compartment independently to the main one

so my question is basically which protects better my laptop which i will be putting it with an incase sleeve aswell
