so Apple decided to offer only the iPod touch or iPod nano for the back to school promo, which totally bombs my plan to get a $200 rebate on iPod classic that I was eyeing.

I will be purchasing a blackbook very soon, so my question:

Which iPod would you choose- Touch or Nano- for your free rebate?

I might prefer the nano- I like to have a small device, and the biggest thing is that I can change volume/track without having to look at the screen.

well, if you would like to be able to do more and have a device thats both mp3 and pretty much a handheld, i'd go touch. That way you can do some basic functions such as check your mail etc without having to whip out your macbook. (permitting theres wifi obviously)

If you want the classic, get the touch and then sell it on ebay. Then use the funds from that towards a classic.

i would get the nano. this way you don't have to pay $100 extra for the touch. also you might get a iphone then the touch would be redundant. and the nano is good for sports where you can't use the touch.

What extra?

You may pay $100 extra for the touch, but you get $100 more rebate. It's still free! So expensive touch that will run all the cool (and many free) iPhone apps or cheap nano? It should be a no-brainer!

Wait until the end of June if you can, to avoid paying $10 to upgrade the iPod touch. I imagine new ones then should ship with 2.0 firmware.

Touch! Touch! Touch!

Most normal* people would choose the Touch, it's awesome.

*except my girlfriend, who got the nano. "I need something smaller for running," she says. I say, "Oh, running... right... I should try that some time."

Too bad at that price the blasted thing is subsidized.

I know and honestly, I don't EVER want to deal with Cingluar again. I loved ATT, when it was ATT. Cingular KILLED the whole customer service. Never again.

That's why I bought a 16gb touch as soon as it came out. (Actually, my store got them in before the "official" date. Only thing is that I had to drive from Tampa to Orlando to get it. totally worth it.)

So anyone know anyone who wants a touch? LOL :D
Edit: ^not meant sexually. Although if she is hot...

iPod touch is an absolute brick for an 8GB MP3 player. It's absolutely huge and you'll begrudge carrying it around with you because you could have had something much smaller.

Get the nano.

thanks for the replies.

Ido plan on taking it out for running- as my old ipod (4g 20gb) has started to give up on me.

but then, Touch can also be used while running, using an armband. The only issues that i will have is that i have to look at the screen to change volume/tracks.

But this issue will be offset by the big screen, wifi and other perks- what do you think?

Definitely get the touch.

Granted, you can run and bike with a touch also, but given a big enough bag, you could also run with a macbook strapped to your back. And this would give you even more trouble than running with a touch when trying to switch songs or changing volume.

The point is, the nano has an excelent form factor for running/jogging/biking, and is one of the ipods where you don't need to see to operate it. And besides that, right now (there are some patents showing that not for long), it is the only ipod compatible with the Nike+ kit, in the event that you would sometime down the road consider this kit for running.

If it is for running, you want the nano.

EDIT: BTW, if you decide for the nano, and also get a Nike+ kit, join us on the MacRumors Nike+ Challenges... ask Ziwi for an invitation.

no you don't need to watch your screen with the touch.
there's this cool app called pockettouch

slide right: next track
slide left: previous track
tap once: play
tap again: pause
slide up: volume up
slide down: volume down
