If I buy an eligible computer, and get $199 towards an ipod, am i allowed to like give that store my old first gen touch so i have an extra $100 towards an ipod? (thus giving me $299 to buy a 32GB second gen touch)

No.

Normally, if you give Apple your old iPod when you buy a new iPod (they have a 'recycling' program), they'll give you 10% off the price of your new iPod. So that'd be $29.99 off a $299.99 iPod, not $100 off.

You'd be better off selling your old iPod on craigslist or eBay for $100+.

When you say $100+, how much do you mean? What's the "limit" at which I won't get replies?

The limit for which people will pay for a 1st gen iPod touch will vary. To get a good idea for how it works around where you live, look at the craigslists ads for the city near you, and see what people are advertising them for.

...does your 1st gen still work well?

If so, I'd give it to a friend, etc... who'll get more satisfaction out of it than the little $$ you'd get for selling it... good luck with what ever you decide...

Take the price of a new iPod Touch into account before posting your 1st gen iPod Touch.

I have been thinking about this lately as I have a 1st gen as well. I want to sell it, but i wouldn't expect to get 200 out of it.
