Hi Guys

I have a 1tb Seagate drive for Time Machine back-ups, which I have been using since March 2018.

My understanding is that the recommended format for the drive should be Mac OS Extended Journaled.

I have just checked and my drive is actually formatted as Mac OS Extended (case-sensitive Journaled).

Should this be an issue for me? I am a very light user and only usually back up once a week. There is about 623gb left on the drive and my weekly back ups are usually only adding 1 or 2gbs...at this rate it will be about 12 years before the drive is full!!

My question is should I:

Erase the drive and reformat it to Mac OS Extended Journaled

or just leave it as it is?

I just want to be able to get my stuff back on to my Mac if something goes wrong and most of files are in folders anyway. The chances of me wanting recover or search for a single file with a case sensitive name are pretty slim.

Thanks for your help.

My semieducated guesses:
- No, probably it isn't an issue, given that TimeMachine is not complaining – and it usually is rather whiny.
- However, do you really want to risk having a broken security net? I would probably restart the whole backup. It should only take a few minutes of your time to do so (and then let TM do its job).
- And anyway, in the meantime you can keep using your *other* backup, right? If you don't have one, consider creating it. It's the recommended practice.
