Back up Mail?

I am planning on rebuilding my Mac because I forgot the password to my filevault, and I am wondering how can I back up all of my email? I do not have mobile me and I don't want to get it just yet.

in the top menu
Mailbox > Archive Mailbox

it will export a file that you can import later once you set up your new accout.

how do I import them? I already made it into an archive like that to see if I could get it to work, and I haven't been able to for some reason...

File > import Mailboxes

then select the mbox radio button
then navigate to the file
