Back-Up question from a Newbie !

Hi all,

Waiting on my first Mac after 20+ years in PC land, so will likely be searching forums and dropping in questions for some time to come

My first question:
I have an external 4TB disc that I planned to use (via USB cable) as my iMac backup disc with Time Machine. At some point, following a Haswell refresh, I'll be getting a MBP as a business machine, which I'd also like to back-up.
Is it possible to 'see and use' over WI-Fi through my home network the same disc physically attached to the iMac, so it can also be the target back-up disc for the MBP?
