Hi

Being fairly new to my imac, I have an external hard drive & wondered if it's easy to back everything up onto it & how do I do it!!

Thanks

Well, once Leopard arrives it'll be really easy with Time Machine. Until then, there are numerous apps that'll do a backup for you. I like Chronosync, but there are others.

If you're not afraid of the command line you can use the rsync command in terminal. I use it for my backups.

you could also just copy your home folder and paste it on your external drive. not the best solution, but definitely easy.

Is your external drive as big or bigger than your internal? If not, then SuperDuper or CarbonCopyCloner are not the best choice.

Some externals come with their own backup software (like LaCie's SilverKeeper).

Do you need to back up everything?
If not, you can drag and drop what you need to back up.

Backup from the .mac account is a good solution.
