Backed up AFAIK before update, now missing pix

We went to the Genius Bar for a microphone problem. There were several pictures and a couple of videos taken between 10/13 and 10/20/15.

Now, I can't find any of either the pictures or the videos. Can't find out how to access the iCloud to restore them, if (I hope) they are there.

Must say, the process is obscure. Is there hope for these items?
