Backed up and restored from 1 6s to another and no messages restored!

I have hundreds of messages. I did a full backup from my 6s and restored to a 6s plus. It looks like lol the apps are transferring but no iMessages and phone call logs. Does this happen later in the restore? It's reloading the apps etc now. I thought the iMessages where restored right away?

This happened to me as I had to replace my first 6S due to a faulty screen. Restored 6S backup from iCloud several times; no iMessages or phone log. As I had only two days between my 5S backup and 6S I restored the 5S backup and have lost a couple of days worth of data. Not great, but not too bad.
