I don't understand. I went in, backed up the data, then when I went to restore after connecting my 5S, it just doesn't transfer any of the apps or anything.

How is this even possible? Isn't this the purpose of a backup?

Like, it went through the restore process, but none of the apps are actually there.

Text messages and iCloud data obviously is, but none of the apps.

Unless you've actually got the apps in the iTunes on your computer, they won't be restored. Your backup doesn't save the actual apps, just the associated data from them, such as your game saves and etc.

If you've got your iTunes set up to keep copies of your apps, then you'll get them back, when you restore and sync.

If not, you'll have to manually reinstall your apps of choice.

Welcome! Happy to help!

It's just a hazard of iTunes backups! :)

On my old computer, I was worried about space and never kept the apps….

Now that I have a new one, I've decided I prefer the lazy way and added them back. LOL
