When you guys are using background applications on a mac, Windows examples - Apache server, Anti-virus, Folding, Compressing Files, etc. - how does that affect performance on a Mac? I mean I know how big of set backs there are on Windows, but just curious about a Mac.

in Applications/Utilities, you can run Activity Monitor to see each processes effect on the CPU, RAM, etc.

if the machines feels fine to you, then it's fine.

folding, btw, scales back its processor use as other processes need it, so unless you're running ProTools or rendering an animation, you probably wouldn't notice it.
