I'm still relatively new to a Mac. I'm not asking about backing up to the cloud. I'm wondering if I can plug a lightning to USB-C cable into my MBA M1 and then copy every single photo from my iPhone 14 Pro Max to a folder in my MBA? I know when I plug my iPhone into Windows, I see a directory of all of my photos and I can just copy and paste it to the desktop.

I know you have reasons. I’m just pointing out that it’s the easiest way. I understand if you don’t want to use it.

Use Image Capture.

After using Image Capture to copy all of the photos from the iPhone to the Mac, I'll now have enough space to do a backup to iCloud (5GB). I'm assuming this app will transfer the files 1:1/originals and maintain the original quality. True?

After restoring the backup to a new iPhone, how do I transfer the files from the Mac to the iPhone so that everything appears properly in the Photos app.

Is this the only reason you asked how to transfer photos from an iPhone to a Mac: to transfer them back to a new iPhone?

If that is the case then why not just setup new iPhone by transferring all data directly from old iPhone to new iPhone side-by-side

If you want to transfer photos between iPhones with no backup, I still think that the best option is to bulk transfer them through AirDrop. I did that when I upgraded.

Is there no way to do it with Image Capture? AirDrop might be too slow with 100GB of data especially if it doesn't use WiFi.

Image Capture only works in one direction. You can use it to download photos from the phone, but you can't use it to upload photos back to the phone.

Why wouldn't you just back up your photos to your computer during a normal backup process? You don't have to use Image Capture, or maybe I am missing something.

Hey guys, just trying to do the reverse by synchronizing the photos from the Mac to the iPhone created a new set of problems. Some photos don't even appear with the original photos and they only appear under the recently added view. They don't appear to be chronologically ordered and I want everything to appear under one view.

Hey guys, if I put the photos on an SD card and then use an Apple lightning/USB-C SD card reader to import photos to the iPhone, would it avoid the synchronization issues such as photos not appearing in one view or photos not in chronological order? What about using a USB-C flash drive? And import the photos with Apple's Photos app?

You can connect any USB drive, even large HDDs. Maybe just try it.

Still curious why you didn't use Quick Start and transfer all of your data directly?

Few users (including myself) posted at least few suggestions here: doing direct data transfer from old iPhone to new iPhone during setup OR performing a local backup and then restoring to new iPhone OR using AirDrop to transfer photos. You have not responded to any of these simple and straight forward suggestions, but instead you keep asking another questions. Do you not even bother reading what other users are trying to say? Are you just ignoring them? If you are not going to do what was mentioned above, you should at least explain why that specific solution is not going to work for you.
