Hey everyone. My iMac came with a Blu-Ray burner built-in (I think it's an early 2011 model) so I decided it'd be cool to back up my Blu-ray collection (I have about 30 movies) and I was wondering how can I back up BD-50 discs onto BD-25's.
I know that it will require compression but quite frankly going from an average bitrate of 29mbps (original discs) to 15mbps probably won't make a difference to the naked eye as long as I don't stick my face inches away from the TV.
I wanted to preserve all the menus, features, chapters, subtitles, etc. so that it's as close to an exact duplicate as possible. I guess what I am really asking for is a solution like DVD Shrink except for Blu-Rays.
Alternatively, if this is not possible, then I would like to know the best way to go about ripping the content off the Blu-Rays and then re-burning it so that I can watch it on my Blu-Ray player.
I figure if I can't get exact duplicates, but I still compress the bitrate a bit, maybe I can fit 2 or 3 movies per disc to save some space. I have a few seasons of TV shows on Blu-Ray too so maybe it would let me put the entire season on 2 or 3 discs instead of 6+.
The key here is that I want these blu-rays I burn to be playable in all blu-ray players. I know there is some AVCHD thing I read about but that only works on some blu-ray players (or does it work in all? Hmmm).
Any ideas appreciated. I am a total newbie for Blu-ray on the computer.
(Just kidding about the Blu-Ray burner, I bought an external one on eBay for my iMac 27" i5, last generation)
