In front of my Mac.
My daughter got a bunch of new movies for Christmas and I would like to back them up before she destroys them. I've got Rip It, Burn, Handbrake, and Visual Hub all at my disposal. What is the easiest way to make a 1:1 backup that will play in a normal DVD player? TIA

You might want to try Mac DVD Ripper Pro
It is an all in one solution

In addition check out these fine threads here.

Note: Handbreak, it's usually used just for encoding.

RipIt / Fairmount / MacTheRipper to rip (copying while removing the copy protection) the DVDs to your HDD, then Burn to burn them to appropriate DVDs (single layer - SL, or double layer - DL).

MRoogle will have also plenty of threads about this.

PS: Handbrake is for compressing video, so no 1:1 stuff.
