Backing up Iphone 4s using Icloud

If I back up my iphone 4s on the icloud it has about 14gb of data on it I would have to purchase the upgrade for storage but would this back up my entire photos contacts sms etc???

If you look in the iCloud backup settings on the phone it will show which apps and app data is getting backed up and how much space it will take. Most apps give you the option of backing up just settings or settings and data.

yes but by backing it up on the cloud do i save my text messages as well?

I recently restored when I went from a 4S to the new iPhone 5 and my texts were there, but I am using Messages. So I am not sure if they came in as part of the restore or only because they were stored on the Messages servers?

I have a simalar issue (i think), about a week ago decided to start using iCloud for my iPhone backup. Now i am getting a message from apple telling me my iCloud is allmost full.
