iPod Backing up iPod

Here is a really dumb question. Is there way for me to back up my iPod with out having back up MP3's on another machine.

What I did, is I took some of my rips (from my own CDs) and put them right on the iPod. I didn't store them on the computer at all. Now the iPod is working strangely and want to do a restore the iPod (format the iPod).

Is there a shareware or commercial software that I can use that will let me back up the iPod?

EDIT: Never mind. I jumped the gun there and didn't see there is already a how-to on doing what I want. Sorry about that.
