Backing up JB 3.2 without SHSH

Missing the opportunity to save SHSH, is there any way to back-up the current state in order to restore if anything went wrong?
 
No there isn't, but if you go up to 4.2.1 your user settings do transfer over. Rather you get the option to after the update.
