Backing Up Mail.app

What is the best way to backup my Mail.app data? A cron job that archives (gzipped tarball) ~/Library/Mail to my backup/file server? Will that save all my settings (rules) too?

That'll save your emails but you may want to save com.apple.mail.plist in your Preferences folder to retain your account information and some other customised settings too.

I use iBackup, it allows you to easily save and restore all your settings and files not just for mail
