For a while now I have been using dropbox to store my pictures as I delete them from my phone to save some space. I noticed with this update there is an icloud beta to store photos? How does it work? any links?

iOS 8 introduced "iCloud Photo Library (beta)", which if you turn it on it replaces your Camera Roll and "My Photo Stream", and lets you store any photo in iCloud at full resolution and lower resolution copies on your iOS device. You can read about it here:

One concern though is that photos stored this way count against your iCloud capacity (5 GB free, by default) whereas "My Photo Stream" and any Shared Photo Streams do not. Keep that in mind since this is what Apple ultimately wants -- to sell you more iCloud space, which is not expensive at $1/month for 20 GB:

Personally I'd stay away from this for now and continue using Dropbox until Apple works out the kinks, since I don't think this is fully cooked (hence the 'beta' indicator).
