I have WD My studio connected to a Mac mini via firewire. The external hard disk is called "Media" and has five folders. Is there any way to back up only two folders out of five using time machine. I know that I can either back up the entire external hard disk or exclude it. But want to find out if there is any way to back up only selected folders that are there on an external hard disk.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

You can exclude the folders you do not want. In System Preferences, Time Machine, Options, click on the "+" sign and navigate to a folder you do not want to back up. Repeat for each of the three folders.

You cannot choose folders to back up - you have to use exclusions to accomplish your purpose.

Thanks Alrescha. That did the trick.
