Backing up SSD/seperate home folder?

I have a SSD as my boot drive with apps on there and my old 1tb drive for the user folders / everything else.

If I back up / clone the boot drive on say 1st January 2012 then back up (drag drop?) my users folder on 7th January, does the fact that they were backed up at different times make a difference would some critical stuff happen in the meantime?

No, it would not mean anything.
Use CarbonCopyCloner to CLONE the Home Directory and NOT Finder.

I want to a - back up a ssd / ext. home combo and b - sync up the mp with a MBP

What's best way for b (I'm sure a u just make 2 partitions on a ext drive for both boot and home)

Edit - I created a new user on the mp which linked to the ssd home directory, I then cloned This onto the MBP - problem is, how do I now sync up a different MBP user with the mp? Is it case of dragging dropping prefs from user mp onto user MBP ? Won't the fact the user names are different mess things up?
