I use time capsule and like it. (although it backs up too frequently IMO, wish you could set a greater time interval).

My question relates to backing up a drive for offsite storage. Is there a convenient way to back up time capsule with a usb hard drive?

Yes there is, but it has to be manually done. If you attach a USB HDD to the Time Capsule, there is an option to archive the TC's HDD via AirPort Utility. Just go into AirPort Utility > Manual Setup > Disks, and select and archive your disk. Again, this has to be manual every time you wish to do this and unfortunately there is no option to do this automatically. Although if it is for offsite storage, I believe this will suit your needs.
